The Beauty of Sprawl

Filed under: Uncategorized — David Schaengold @ 10:21 am

Some beautiful panoramas of high-end Californian sprawl from photographer Matt Jalbert. A good reminder of how truly strange sprawl is. No other civilization in human history has ever built all at once hundreds of thousands of nearly identical homes in little clusters a day’s walk from the nearest place to buy milk and bread. Perhaps future archaeologists will conclude that the exurbs were massively expensive conceptual art projects, since they undoubtedly do have a bizarre beauty altogether their own. Surely, they will think, no society so wealthy could actually expect people to live in such places. (via Austin Contrarian)
