Should Jai Alai become our new national pastime?

Last Monday’s episode of Mad Men featured a character who is squandering his family’s fortune in an effort to make America embrace the obscure sport of jai alai. Obviously, it never caught on. That said, Wikipedia suggests that Sterling Cooper’s jai alai ad campaign will see some limited success:

In the United States, jai alai enjoyed some popularity as a gambling alternative to horse racing, greyhound racing, and harness racing, and remains popular in Florida

What’s the deal with Florida? My answer to the question in the title would be a resounding, “No.” However, I know our readership is crazy enough (in a good way) that some of you may think a little jai alai is just what this nation needs.
